The 2026 Alberta RPAS Compliance Checklist

What the checklist covers

The 2026 update to Canada's RPAS framework changed how most beyond-visual-line-of-sight and complex commercial work is authorized. Use this list to confirm a drone operation — your own or a vendor's — is flying inside the rules.

• Operating category confirmed. Basic, Advanced, or the 2026 Level 1 Complex Operations pathway that replaces the old SFOC for most routine BVLOS work.
• Pilot certificate matches the mission. The pilot in command holds the certificate level the operation requires, and it is current.
• Aircraft registration and Remote ID. The RPAS is registered and broadcasts Remote ID where required.
• Liability insurance in force. Coverage appropriate to the work — UAV Imaging carries $5M aviation liability.
• Recurrent training and currency. Pilot recency, recurrent training and equipment maintenance logs are up to date.
• Site authorizations. Airspace, controlled-zone and any site-specific approvals are secured before the flight window.
• Documentation ready to produce. Certificates, insurance and operating procedures can be shown on request.
